Tartans Set Another Record and Reach the Podium on Second Day of NCAA Championships

(GREENSBORO, N.C.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team continued action at the 2024 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday, March 21. A school record was broken, with the Tartans holding down eighth place with 89 points at the Greensboro Aquatics Center.

Top Performances

  • The Tartans placed fifth in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Graduate student Aleksander Tarczynski swam first, followed by freshman Brayden Morford, sophomore DJ Lloyd, and finished with sophomore Arnav Deshpande touching the wall in a time of 1:19.72 to set a new school record.
  • Morford, junior Christian Lanuza, Tarczynski, and Deshpande finished first in the consolation final of the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:14.21 to earn 18 points for the team.
  • Freshman Miles Haraldsson swam the 400-yard IM and finished 24th with a career-best time of 4:04.22.
  • Graduate student Willem Goedecke swam for the first time and finished the 200-yard freestyle in 1:40.25 for 35th place.

The NCAA Championships continue on Friday, March 22, with the 200-yard butterfly, 100-yard backstroke, the 100-yard breaststroke, and the 800-yard freestyle relay.
