#22 Tartans Fall at #1 Case Western Reserve

(CLEVELAND, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team, ranked 22nd, traveled to Cleveland, Ohio on Saturday to play the nation's top ranked team, Case Western Reserve University. The Tartans dropped a 7-2 decision and are now 6-8 on the season while the Spartans improved to 24-4.

How it Happened

  • The Spartans swept doubles play to take a 3-0 lead.
  • The Tartans second pair of junior Derek Wong and freshman Akshay Joshi along with the third duo of senior Raahil Doshi and junior Jaden D'Abreo fell by the score of 8-5.
  • Carnegie Mellon's first point of the match came when senior Matthew Poh won his second straight-set match. The senior posted a 6-4, 6-3 victory at four singles.
  • Sophomore Chaitanya Irkar closed the match forcing a third set super breaker and won 6-7 (4), 7-6 (3), 1-0 (14-12).

  • The Tartans will next travel to Altamonte Springs, Florida, for the UAA Championship with play set to begin on Friday, April 21. The draw for the tournament will be released by Monday, April 17.
