#37 Tartans Top #23 Washington & Lee

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team, ranked 37th in the nation, hosted 23rd-ranked Washington and Lee University on Saturday, March 30 indoors at Alpha Tennis and Fitness Club. The Tartans won the match by a 5-2 score to move to 4-6 overall while the Generals dropped to 10-5.

Inside the Results

  • The Tartans earned two points during doubles play after senior Nicholas Wernink and senior Nadim Motaghedi won at third doubles by an 8-7 (7-1) score to tie the match at 1-all.
  • The number one pair of freshmen Raghav Jangbahadur and Daniel Kong then won 8-7 (16-14) to give the Tartans the lead.
  • Wernink finished singles play first with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at number four singles against Sanjheev Rao.
  • Kong then won, 6-1, 6-4, at third singles against James Kurani before freshman Jonathan Gu picked up the match point at sixth singles with a 6-3, 6-3 win against Connor Coleman.
