Rich Named UAA Field Athlete of the Week

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Senior Thomas Rich of the Carnegie Mellon University men's outdoor track and field team was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week for field events. The senior competed at the Susquehanna Multi last Thursday and Friday while winning the decathlon with a school record 6,823 points which broke his own record of 6,606 set last season at the NCAA Championships.

Rich tied his personal records in pole vault and the 100-meter dash. He also set personal-best marks in the javelin with a toss of 53.19 meters and in the 110-meter hurdles crossing in 14.99. He currently ranks tops in the nation in the decathlon while ranking second in the UAA in the 110-meter hurdles, third in the javelin and fourth in the long jump, all marks set this weekend.

The Tartans will travel to Slippery Rock University to compete in the Slippery Rock Last Chance Meet. Competition will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 18.
