Chintala Scores 26 Against #5 Hope

(DELAWARE, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team traveled to Delaware, Ohio, to play in the Ohio Wesleyan University Hoops for Hope Tournament on Thursday, December 29 in its first action after the winter break. The Tartans opened the two-day tournament against fifth-ranked Hope College, falling 85-66.

How it Happened

  • The Tartans started by holding a 6-3 lead, less than three minutes in the first quarter before Hope scored seven straight to take a 10-6 lead with 4:19 to play in the frame.
  • The Flying Dutch started the game shooting 1-of-6 but finished the quarter hitting 9-of-12 and held a 25-12 lead at the first break with junior Megan Matsko leading the Tartans with six points.
  • Hope led by 16 points in the first minute of the second quarter before the Tartans pulled to within seven, 34-27, with a 13-4 run behind seven points from Matsko.
  • Hope answered the Tartans' run with an 11-0 blitz and a 13-3 quarter finish to lead 47-30 at the half.
  • Sophomore Anisha Chintala scored 10 of the team's 14 points in the third quarter and added another 12 in the fourth quarter.

For the Tartans

  • Chintala led the team with a career-best 26 points on a career-best 12 made field goals. Chintala also had a game and career-high seven steals.
  • Matsko finished with 15 points.
  • Sophomore Catherine Or  tallied 11 points to continue her streak of games scoring in double figures, now at 10 for the season and 16 dating back to last year.
  • Or led the Tartans with a game-high eight rebounds.

For the Flying Dutch

  • Ella McKinney led the team with 22 points, hitting 5-of-8 from long range.
  • Savannah Feenstra tallied 15 points and hit 9-of-10 free throws.
  • Hope recorded double-digit three-pointers made for the eighth time this season with 12, hitting 41.4%.

Notes

  • The meeting was just the second in program history for the Flying Dutch and Tartans with the Tartans winning the previous meeting, 73-72, in the first round of the NCAA tournament in 2016.
