Tartans Have Best Shooting Performance of Season in 83-51 Win

(WASHINGTON, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team faced the University of Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday, November 11 for its second game at the Washington and Jefferson's Tip-Off Tournament. The Tartans won the game, 83-51, and are now 2-1 to begin the season.

How It Happened

  • The Bobcats held a 9-2 lead after a slow start by the Tartans where they missed six of their first seven shots.
  • Following a timeout, the Tartans closed the final five minutes and 30 seconds of the quarter with a 19-3 run started by junior Catherine Or on a drive to the basket.
  • Not losing steam, the Tartans outscored the Bobcats 18-8 in the second quarter, while shooting 42% from the floor.
  • The Tartans were even better in the third quarter, scoring 22 points on 61.5% shooting.
  • The Bobcats had their best scoring output in the fourth quarter with 18 points, but the Tartans scored 24 with freshman Allie Heyer accounting for 12 points.
  • Sophomore Bethany Carlin grabbed six rebounds in the fourth quarter and scored four points to help lead the Tartans.

For the Tartans

  • Heyer led four Tartans in double figures with a season-best 19 points.
  • Sophomore Savannah Gibbs was 7-of-11 from the field for 15 points and led the team with five assists.
  • Or picked up her second double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds while also dishing out four assists.
  • Freshman Anna Prouty scored a season-best 11 points.
  • Sophomore Piper Ligotti collected a career-best four assists.
  • Sophomore Bethany Carlin had a career-best two blocks.

For the Bobcats

  • Malina Boord led offensively with 13 points, followed by Melina Maietta and Sarah Penrod who both scored 11.
  • Madison Scalese collected eight rebounds, followed by Keira Coleman with six.
  • Maietta also led with four assists.
