Wang Named UAA Women’s Golfer of the Week

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Freshman Samantha Wang of the Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Women's Golf Athlete of the Week following her play at the Montgomery Country Club Women's Intercollegiate. Wang claimed individual medalist honors at the 36-hole event on the par-72, 5,640-yard Montgomery Country Club course.

In her first collegiate event, Wang led the Tartans to a one-stroke victory, as she sank a 25-foot putt on hole 18 to secure the win. She also claimed individual medalist honors amongst a field of 75 golfers with a six-under par 138 (70-68) in her first collegiate event.

Wang's score of 138 (-6) ties the school record for lowest individual 36-hole total in the program's history. She tied teammate Sriya Mupparaju who also scored a 138 (-6) in 2021 at the same event. She carded 11 birdies for the tournament and shot a four-under 68 in the final round which is the third lowest 18-hole round for a Tartan.

The Tartans will compete next at the NCAA Preview on October 1-2 at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky.
