Tartans Collect Second Dual Meet Victory

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team topped visiting Washington and Lee University on Saturday, November 13 to win its second straight dual meet of the year. The Tartans won nine events to finish with a 160-102 victory.

The 200-yard medley relay of junior Bonnie Wang (Vancouver, BC / Collingwood School), sophomore Maya McAuley (Novato, Calif. / Novato), junior Miya Higuchi (Glendale, Calif. / Crescenta Valley) and junior Mathea Myhrvold (Raleigh, N.C. / Wakefield) opened the meet with a 1:49.34 victorious time.

Senior Kierstyn Cassidy (Waynesville, Ohio / Waynesville) won the 1,000-yard freestyle for the second time this season with a time of 10:46.87 and also won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:13.39.

Wang touched first in the 100-yard backstroke in 58.16 to lead a sweep of the event. She also won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:05.18 to win both events for the second straight meet.

Freshman Emma Kulbida (Broomfield, Colo. / Stargate Charter) won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:08.30 and the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:28.13, leading a sweep of the second event.

Freshman Carolann Kimock (Old Bridge, N.J. / Saint John Vianney) led a sweep of the 200-yard butterfly in 2:10.23, winning the event for the second time this season.

The 200-yard freestyle relay finished the meet with a win in 1:38.68 behind the efforts of Wang, Kimock, freshman Krystal Xiao-Rao (San Francisco, Calif. / St. Ignatius College Preparatory) and Myhrvold.

Sophomore Kelli Kuramoto (Los Altos, Calif. / Los Altos) earned top points on the 1-meter board with a score of 292.65 and top points on the 3-meter board with a score of 293.85. Both scores surpass the NCAA Regional qualifying marks and send Kuramoto to the NCAA Regional Diving meet in March as she achieved the result on the 1-meter board for the second time this season.

The Tartans will next compete in the three-day Kenyon Invitational on Thursday, November 18 through Saturday, November 20 while the divers will host an invitational on Friday, November 19 and Saturday, November 20.
