Tartans Host Western PA Invitational for Senior Meet

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team hosted the Western Pennsylvania Invite on Friday, January 26 and Saturday, January 27 with members of Chatham University, Duquesne University, and Saint Francis University competing.

Top Performances Friday

  • Freshman Ellie Leeming finished fourth in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:11.24.
  • Freshman Jessica Zheng dropped just about two seconds off her time in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing in 5:10.24 to place fourth.
  • Freshman Emma Dreiman dropped nearly three seconds from her 100-yard freestyle time with a third-place finish in 53.71. Senior Danning Hu was just behind her with a season-best time of 53.72.
  • Junior Reece Whatmore placed second in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:10.64 while junior Molly Kinstle was third in 2:12.45.
  • Sophomore Savannah Xu placed third in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:04.97 on Friday.

Top Performances Saturday

  • The 200-yard medley relay of junior Krystal Xiao-Rao, senior Maya McAuley, junior Aanika Schueler, and sophomore Eliana Szabo led the Tartans with a time of 1:49.33 for third place.
  • Xu won the 400-yard IM in 4:34.08, just ahead of her seed time of 4:34.09.
  • Szabo was the first Tartan to finish the 200-yard freestyle in 1:56.29 in fourth place with Dreiman touching fifth in 1:56.43.
  • Kinstle was the first to finish the 100-yard butterfly with a season-best time of 58.40.
  • Graduate student Mathea Myhrvold topped the CMU list for the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.99 to place seventh.
  • Zheng was first in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:40.78, nearly 13 seconds faster than her previous best time for the season.

  • The Tartans break from action until the University Athletic Association Championships on Wednesday, February 14 through Saturday, February 17 at the University of Chicago.
