Tartans Travel to Chicago for UAA Championships

(CHICAGO, Ill.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team began competition on Wednesday, February 14 and Thursday, February 15 at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships at the University of Chicago. The Tartans are currently in sixth place with 321 points.

Top Performances

  • Freshman Cat Bryan placed 14th on the 1-meter diving board with a score of 378.60 points only slightly ahead of junior Kyndall Tatum who placed 17th with 349.35 points.
  • The Tartans placed sixth in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 7:37.86 behind the swims of sophomore Sophie Elliott, sophomore Savannah Xu, freshman Alice Yueh, and sophomore Eliana Szabo.
  • The Tartans also placed sixth in the 200-yard freestyle relay with sophomore Grace Malinger, senior Zoe Jacobs, sophomore Yitian Zhang, Szabo completing the race in a time of 1:36.27.
  • Elliot was also the top finisher for the Tartans in the 500-yard freestyle event, placing tenth with a career-best time of 4:59.53.
  • Xu placed sixth in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:05.48.
  • Szabo was the top finisher for the Tartans in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.25 which placed her 20th. Jacobs also made the finals in the event after a career-best time of 24.53 in the preliminaries and placed 24th in 24.64.
  • The Tartans placed sixth in the 400-yard medley relay. Xu, sophomore Audrey Lambert, sophomore Audrey Soetanto, and Szabo finished in a time of 3:51.18 for a season-best time.

Notes

  • The 800-yard freestyle relay set a new school record, topping the record set in 2019, and met the provisional qualifying standard for the NCAA Championships.
