#11 Tartans Drop Match to # 10 Sewanee at ITA Indoor Championship
(NICHOLASVILLE, Ky.) – The 11th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team ran into 10th-ranked Sewanee in the consolation semifinal of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship on Saturday in Nicholasville, Kentucky. The Tigers were victorious by an 8-1 score to push the Tartans dual match record to 7-3 while Sewanee improves to 4-1.
Doubles Play:
- The Tigers swept doubles to take a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.
Singles Play:
- Sophomore Sarah Yang claimed the Tartans lone point of the match with a 7-5, 6-1 victory at the top singles spot.
- Sophomore Crystal Zhou played second singles and after dropping her first set 6-4, she won the second 6-2 to force a third set in which she lost 6-3.
- The third spot also saw a three-set match in which Tartan freshman Divya Venkatarama dropped a 6-2, 7-5, 1-0 (10-8) decision.
Next Up
- The Tartans will return to the courts on Sunday, March 4 to face 12th-ranked Case Western Reserve at 8:00 a.m. in the seventh-place match.
