#15 Tartans Takedown #23 Christopher Newport

(ORLANDO, Fla.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team, ranked 15th nationally, continued its spring break trip to Orlando, Florida, with a 9-0 victory over 23rd-ranked Christopher Newport University on Thursday morning. The Tartans are now 7-4 in dual play while the Captains even their mark at 4-4.

How it Happened:

  • The Tartans swept doubles play with the first point coming at the second spot when sophomores Anna Chow and Divya Venkatarama won 8-3.
  • The score went to 2-0 following an 8-5 win by junior Sarah Yang and freshman Elaine Qian at third doubles.
  • The Cardinal and Gray top duo of senior Danna Taylor and junior Zoe Angell finished the sweep with a victory of 8-7 (3).
  • Angell then claimed the first point in singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 win at fourth singles.
  • Venkatarama clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-3 straight set victory at third singles.

Notes

  • The Tartans have now swept doubles play four times this season.
  • The Cardinal and Gray have now won nine straight matches on their southern spring trip dating back to 2022.
