#18 Tartans Win Fourth Straight Defeating #21 Mary Washington 8-1

(FREDERICKSBURG, Va.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team, ranked 18th in Division III, traveled to 21st-ranked University of Mary Washington on Saturday and defeated the Eagles 8-1. The Tartan dual record is now 9-4 while the Eagles move to 6-6.

How it Happened:

  • The Tartans took the first point of doubles play with the tandem of sophomores Anna Chow and Divya Venkatarama winning 8-1 in the second spot.
  • Junior Zoe Angell and senior Danna Taylor then won at first doubles with a score of 8-4 followed by the duo of sophomore Anika Joshi and freshman Ainika Hou winning in the third spot by the score of 8-6 to complete the doubles sweep for the Cardinal and Gray.
  • Taylor then gave the Tartans a 4-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at second singles.
  • The Cardinal and Gray then got the match clinching point from Hou at six singles with a 6-3, 6-0 win making the score 5-0.
  • Also, winning for the Tartans were junior Sarah Yang at first singles, Angell at the four spot and Venkatarama at third singles.
