Tartans Top PAC Leader, Thiel, 3-1 on the Road

(Greenville, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team visited Greenville, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday evening and left with a 3-1 victory against Presidents' Athletic Conference leader, Thiel College. The Tartans are now 14-5 for the season while Thiel moves to 15-9.

  • Thiel opened with a 27-25 first-set win and nearly won set three which the Tartans won 29-27.
  • The Tartans closed the match with a 25-10 fourth-set win.
  • The Tartans hit .240 or better in all four sets with a set-best .349 coming in a 25-22 second-set win.
  • Four Tartans put down double-digit kills with junior Jane Dean leading with 15.
  • Freshman Elizabeth Schlemmer had 14 kills, while junior Laura Reichard had 12 and junior Avani Seshiah had 10.
  • Freshman Kai Herchenroether had a season-best nine kills for the night, hitting a team-best .368.
  • Senior Stella Yan collected a career-best 60 assists and now has 2,008 for her career.
  • Sophomore Abby Chen led the defense by tying her career-best with 30 digs while Reichard had 25.

The Tartans travel to second-ranked Juniata College for a Friday match at 7:00 p.m. on October 21 to start the Wid Guisler Invitational. The Tartans will also play York College and Smith College on Saturday, October 22.
