Tartans Impress Once Again in Classroom During Fall Semester

January 16, 2024

The fall athletics season was highlighted by four team NCAA appearances, three University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships, and a football bowl victory, but the Tartans also continued their dominance in the classroom. Academically, 137 student-athletes recorded a perfect 4.0 grade-point average (GPA) with nearly 65 percent earning a 3.50 GPA or better.

Tartans Place 12 on Volleyball and Football Academic All-District Teams

Twelve volleyball and football Carnegie Mellon University student-athletes were named to a College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team for Division III, nominated by members of CSC, for the fall season. College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) rebranded to CSC in the summer of 2022.

Department Honors Top Academic Athletes at Annual Celebration

In its 10th year celebrating academic and athletic achievement, the Carnegie Mellon Department of Athletics welcomed faculty and staff to the annual Student-Athlete Academic Achievement Celebration to honor 35 of the highest-achieving juniors and seniors across all colleges and athletics teams on Wednesday. The celebration is always held on Reading Day during finals week.

Lai Leads Trio Honored by AVCA as All-Region; Lai Garners All-America Honorable Mention

Senior setter Mindee Lai, senior outside hitter Laura Reichard, and sophomore right side hitter Elizabeth Schlemmer garnered all-region accolades from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) with Lai becoming the first Tartan since 2019 to be named to the AVCA All-America Team.

Isabella Sierra Balances Volleyball, Sorority Life, and a Double Major

Isabella Sierra, a film and business major native to D.C., has created a home for herself on the Carnegie Mellon University campus. A Tri Delta sister and a member of the volleyball team, she embodies the Tartan spirit.

The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team competed in the opening round of the 2023 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship on Thursday at Hope College in Holland, Michigan. The Tartans faced Pacific Lutheran University and dropped a 3-0 decision to the Lutes.

Tartans Earn NCAA Championship Bid, to Open Play in Michigan

November 13, 2023

For the second straight season, the Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team will compete for a national championship after receiving an at-large bid to the 2023 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship. The Tartans are making their third appearance in the national tournament under the direction of five-year head coach Anne Bock, and the ninth overall appearance in program history.

Four Carnegie Mellon University volleyball players have been honored on the 2023 All-University Athletic Association (UAA) Volleyball Team with senior Mindee Lai and sophomore Elizabeth Schlemmer earning second-team recognition. Seniors Jane Dean and Laura Reichard were recognized as honorable mention selections.

The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team placed fifth at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship on Saturday after a 3-1 victory against ninth-ranked Washington University in St Louis. The championship tournament was hosted by Emory University and the Tartans finished the regular season with a 23-8 record.

Tartans Split Action on First Day of UAA Championship Tournament

November 10, 2023

The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team traveled to Atlanta, Georgia, for the University Athletic Association (UAA) Volleyball Championship hosted by Emory University with the opening round quarterfinal match on Friday, November 10. The Tartans dropped a 3-1 match to the University of Chicago before facing the University of Rochester in the consolation round later in the evening and winning 3-1. The Tartans are now 22-8 for the season.

Freshman setter Neha Tummala of the Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week following her performance over the weekend. Tummala helped the Tartans to a 3-0 mark over the weekend at the SUNY-Geneseo Invitational.

The Carnegie Mellon University’s volleyball team finished their weekend at the SUNY Geneso Invitational with back-to-back wins against Rochester Institute of Technology and Fredonia State University. The pair of victories gives the Cardinal and Gray a 21-7 overall record.

The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team closed its home season with a pair of victories while celebrating the senior class on Saturday, October 28. The Tartans topped William Smith by a 3-2 score before defeating Randolph Macon, 3-0, to move to 18-7 for the season.
