Tartans Place Second at Mid-Atlantic Regional

(LOCK HAVEN, Pa.) - The 34th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's cross country team, who was ranked second in the Mid-Atlantic region, finished second at the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship on Saturday. November 11. The team scored 103 points with six runners in the top 35.

John Hopkins 42, Carnegie Mellon 103, Misericordia 130, Dickinson 183, Scranton 188.

Location: West Branch Cross Country Course, Lock Haven, Pa.

Results:

  • Sophomore Orit Shiang led the Tartans with an eighth-place finish in a time of 21:32.4.
  • Senior Isabella Rhee was the second Tartan to cross the finish line, as she was 17th overall in 21:59.2.
  • Junior Alyssa Hoffman and freshman Maya Ducker finished 22nd and 23rd in times of 22:06.5 and 22:18.0.
  • Sophomore Margaret Ann Healy was the fifth Tartan to finish the race, as she placed 33rd in 22:29.8.
  • Junior Lauryn McKenna and junior Avery Thompson also competed in the race for the Tartans, finishing 34th and 46th overall in times of 22:32.2 and 22:57.2.

Notes:

  • Shiang, Rhee, Hoffman, Ducker, Healy, and McKenna earn all-region honors by finishing in the top 35.
  • Hoffman is a three-time all-region finisher.
  • This is the second straight year the Tartans placed second at the regional championships.

  • The Tartans now will wait for an at-large bid to the 2023 NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championships. Bids are announced on Sunday, November 12 with the race taking place in Newville, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, November 18.
