Gorman Hired as Aquatics Director

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University Department of Athletics announced the hiring of Alicia Gorman as Director of Aquatics and Facility Manager. Gorman, who has served as the head diving coach for 10 years, will begin her full-time responsibilities on September 1. She will retain her role as head diving coach.

“Alicia has been a big part of our community for a long time and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to utilize her background in a more robust capacity,” said director of athletics Josh Centor.

Gorman has been around the pool since diving throughout her childhood in Tennessee and has 10 years of pool management experience. She began as the assistant pool manager at St. Clair Country Club in 2005 and worked as the pool manager of Cranmoor Townhomes for three years. She has also served as the manager at Glen Creek Tennis Club.

In addition to overseeing the aquatics program, Gorman will open the athletics facilities in the Cohon Center. She will also have a significant role in managing the new fitness center that will open in the Cohon Center in May 2016.

Gorman is a National Swimming Pool Foundation Certified Pool Operator and has her Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicator Certification. She is certified through the American Red Cross as a lifeguard and first aid/CPR with AED instructor.

Gorman graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in 2001 with a master’s in human performance and sport studies. She also obtained her bachelor’s degree in sport management from Tennessee while diving four years for the Lady Volunteers, qualifying for three SEC Championship meets and four NCAA Zone meets.
