Seven Named Athlete of the Week by ECAC

(DANBURY, Conn.) – Seven Carnegie Mellon University athletes were honored by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) when the organization announced its weekly award winners this week. From football junior Alex Cline (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome) and junior Rory Hubbard (Rolling Hills Estates, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula), women's soccer freshman Carolyn Botz (St. Louis, Mo./Micds), from volleyball junior Lauren Mueller (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown STEM Academy) and sophomore Kayla Yew (San Francisco, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral), men's cross country sophomore Evan Yukevich (Tokyo, Japan/American School in Japan) and women's cross country freshman Parvathi Meyyappan (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista).

Alex Cline - South Football Offensive Player of the Week

Junior quarterback Alex Cline of the Carnegie Mellon University football team guided the Tartans to a 42-27 win over the visiting Golden Tornadoes of Geneva College Saturday afternoon. Cline threw for a career-best 324 yards and tossed three touchdowns after completing 14-of-22 passes. It marked his sixth straight multi touchdown game and 10th of his career.

Rory Hubbard – South Football Special Teams Player of the Week

Junior Rory Hubbard of the Carnegie Mellon University football team recorded 144 kickoff return yards including a 92-yard return for a touchdown in the Tartans win over Geneva College on Saturday. Hubbard's touchdown return marked the Tartans first kickoff return for a score since the 2015 season when Chris Herrera returned a kick 88 yards against Bridgewater State in the ECAC Legacy Bowl. The junior also added three rush attempts for 20 yards to his stat line.

Carolyn Botz - South Women's Soccer Rookie Player of the Week

Freshman goalkeeper Carolyn Botz handed #2 Washington University in St. Louis its first loss in 27 games and first loss at home in 30 games when she shutout the Bears on Sunday, October 15, 1-0. Botz made two saves in the game in her seventh shutout of the season. On Friday, Botz faced #1 Chicago and made six saves in a 2-0 loss.

Lauren Mueller - South Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week

Junior outside hitter Lauren Mueller of the 6th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team guided the Tartans to a 4-0 mark at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin #2 including two wins over top ranked teams (3-1 win over #13 Chicago and a 3-2 win over #4 Emory). Mueller led the team with 58 kills, 3.87 kills per game, and hit .265 in the four matches. The junior recorded three double-doubles and double digit kills in all four matches. She opened play on Saturday with 11 kills against Rochester, then tabbed 18 kills and 21 digs against Chicago. On Sunday, the junior tabbed 14 kills and 12 digs in the win over Brandeis before closing the round robin with 15 kills and 10 digs in a win over 4th-ranked Emory.

Kayla Yew - South Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week

Sophomore libero Kayla Yew of the 6th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team guided the Tartans to a 4-0 mark at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin #2 including two wins over top ranked teams (3-1 win over #13 Chicago and a 3-2 win over #4 Emory). Yew totaled 105 digs for the week and extended her double-digit dig streak to 29 games dating back to last season. She recorded a career-high of 39 in the Tartans win over #4 Emory while also recording 32 in the Tartans win over #13 Chicago. Additionally, Yew had seven service aces for the round robin.

Evan Yukevich - South Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week

Sophomore Evan Yukevich of the 16th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's cross country team guided the Tartans to a second-place finish at the 28-team Rowan Inter-Regional Invitational hosted by Rowan University on Saturday. In a field of 250 runners, Yukevich finished the race in fifth after crossing the finish line in 25:06.8.

Parvathi Meyyappan - South Women's Cross Country Rookie Runner of the Week

Freshman Parvathi Meyyappan of the Carnegie Mellon University women's cross country team competed at the Rowan Inter-Regional Invitational hosted by Rowan University on Saturday. Meyyappan finished Saturday's race 90th overall in a field of 239 runners with a time of 23:50.0.
