Four Named Athlete of the Week by ECAC

(DANBURY, Conn.) – Four Carnegie Mellon University athletes were honored by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) when the organization announced its weekly award winners this week. From women's cross country senior Aparna Alavilli (Hanover, N.H./Hanover) and freshman Parvathi Meyyappan (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista), from women's soccer freshman Carolyn Botz (St. Louis, Mo./Micds) and from volleyball sophomore Kayla Yew (San Francisco, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral).

Aparna Alavilli - South Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week

Senior Aparna Alavilli of the Carnegie Mellon University women's cross country team led the Tartans to their best team finish at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Women's Cross Country Championships on Saturday since 2012 with a fourth-place team showing. Alavilli was the top Tartan runner at the championships, as she crossed the finish line fifth overall in a time of 23:47.3 for the 6k race.

Parvathi Meyyappan - South Women's Cross Country Rookie Runner of the Week

Freshman Parvathi Meyyappan of the Carnegie Mellon University women's cross country team competed at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Women's Cross Country Championships on Saturday, as the Tartans raced to fourth-place finish which was their best since 2012. Meyyappan ran the 6k race in 26:02.5.

Carolyn Botz - South Women's Soccer Rookie Player of the Week

Freshman goalkeeper Carolyn Botz recorded her ninth shutout of the season when the Tartans topped Rochester, 1-0, at home on Sunday. Botz’s recorded is now 12-2-2 for the year after she also earned a victory on Friday at home against Emory when the Tartans defeated the Eagles, 2-1. She made two saves in each contest.

Kayla Yew - South Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week

Sophomore Kayla Yew continued her double-digit dig streak while the #6 Tartans went 2-2 for the week. The sophomore's streak now sits at 36 dating back to last season. For the week, Yew totaled 74 and averaged 4.93 digs per set. The sophomore recorded a week-high 33 digs in a 3-2 setback to nationally ranked Juniata. Additionally, Yew had four service aces for the week.
