(CLEVELAND, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University Department of Athletics is 16th in the final winter Division III Learfield Directors’ Cup standings, as announced by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). Carnegie Mellon totaled 451.08 points through the fall and winter seasons. The Tartans are one of five University Athletic Association institutions to crack the top 16 in the standings.

After earning 192.5 points for the fall season, when four teams qualified for their respective NCAA Championships (men’s and women’s cross country, women’s soccer and volleyball), the winter season saw the Tartans claim 258.58 points.

During the winter season, both the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams placed at the NCAA Championship meet. The men finished eighth and the women placed 22nd. The men’s indoor track and field team finished 16th at the NCAA Championship while the women’s indoor track and field team placed 17th for the second consecutive season, tying its best finish in program history. The men’s basketball program competed in the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2009 and earned points in the standings.

Carnegie Mellon joins the other seven University Athletic Association (UAA) institutions in the standings – NYU (first, Emory (fourth), WashU (fifth), (Chicago (11th), Carnegie Mellon (16th), Case Western Reserve (33rd), Rochester (35th) and Brandeis (116th).

The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
