(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Carnegie Mellon University Director of Athletics Josh Centor has announced the promotion of four staff members along with three title changes to align with the department’s recently released five-year strategic plan. Among the promotions is the addition of Rosie Cheng and Alan Degennaro to the administrative leadership team.

"As we begin to work toward the achievement of the goals in our newly released strategic plan, ensuring that we are positioned appropriately administratively is of critical importance. I am thrilled to announce the staff promotions and title changes that directly align with our strategic priorities," said Centor.

Cheng is now the Assistant Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Wellness and Belonging after serving as the Coordinator of Student-Athlete Wellness and an athletic trainer with the sports performance team for the past 11 years. Cheng will continue to provide oversight for the SMART program and lead the Plaidvocates and ADPI student-athlete group. While maintaining her athletic trainer role for volleyball, men’s and women’s cross country, women’s basketball and women’s tennis, Cheng will take a leadership role with the department’s inclusion and belonging efforts by serving as the NCAA Athletics Diversity and Inclusion Designee.

DeGennaro has been elevated to Assistant Director of Athletics for Sports Performance. Entering his 13th year on staff as the leader of the strength and conditioning program, DeGennaro is committed to research and forming relationships across the university. In his new role, DeGennaro will be charged with implementing strategies related to enhancing competitive performance through work in the weight room and with nutrition and mental performance.

After five years on the sidelines with the women’s soccer team, Chris Moraga has been promoted to Associate Head Coach for Women’s Soccer. Moraga’s tenure with the Tartans has included back-to-back trips to the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16 with the 2019 team reaching the national semifinals. The women’s soccer program has been nationally ranked throughout his tenure, while his recruiting efforts have produced three All-America honorees, the 2022 D3soccer.com and University Athletic Association (UAA) Defensive Player of the Year, and the 2021 UAA Rookie of the Year.

With her retirement from coaching, Alicia Gorman will move from the director of aquatics and head diving coach to Assistant Director of Recreational Programs. Her expanded role outside of aquatics adds capacity to the recreational programs as the department plans for program expansion heading into the completion of the Highmark Center next summer.

Along with the promotions, Centor announced three title changes that more appropriately reflect the strategic ambitions and the work being done in the respective areas of sports medicine and athletics communications. Adam Hindes will enter his 14th year on staff and transition from the Coordinator of Sports Medicine to the Director of Sports Medicine. Mark Fisher and Andrea James, who have been telling the stories of our athletes in the sports information department for the past 19 and 18 years, respectively, will now take on the titles of Director of Athletics Communications and Associate Director of Athletics Communications.
