Football Opens UAA Play at Washington U.

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University football team will open its University Athletic Association schedule Saturday, October 27, as they travel to St. Louis to face the Bears of Washington University.  The Tartans enter the contest with a 5-2 record while the Bears are 2-5.   

This will mark the 30th meeting between Carnegie Mellon and Washington with the Tartans leading the series 15-14. From 1987 to 1998 the Tartans won 11 of 12 against the Bears, with the only loss coming in 1994 (36-25). Washington won seven straight from 1999-2005 while the squads are 3-3 in their last six meetings.

When the two teams meet on Saturday there will be two of the top-10 active winningest coaches in Division III taking the field.  Tartans head coach Rich Lackner ranks sixth with 180 wins while Bears leader Larry Kindbom is ninth with 173 career wins.

Last week, the Cardinal and Gray dropped a 34-26 heartbreaker to unbeaten Ohio Wesleyan University.  The Bears this past Saturday defeated Denison 18-13.
