Kalkstein and Smith Honored by University Athletic Association

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – The Carnegie Mellon University football team had two members honored by the University Athletic Association (UAA) as Athletes of the Week following the Tartans' 35-32 setback to Case Western Reserve University in the 28th Annual Academic Bowl, Saturday, November 16. Senior quarterback Rob Kalkstein (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) on the offensive side and senior punter Tucker Smith (Fairhaven, N.J./Rumson-Fairhaven) on special teams were honored.  

Kalkstein turned in a career performance while breaking the school's career passing mark in his final collegiate game. He passed for a career-high 327 yards while completing a career-best 22 passes on a career-high 39 attempts.  The four-year starter also tossed three touchdowns and on his second one became the school's all-time passer as he ended his career with 5,519 yards passing.

Smith averaged 46.1 yards per punt on seven punts with a long of 50 while placing two inside Case's 20-yard line.  He ended the season with an average of 39.1 yards per punt while placing 10 inside the opponent 20-yard line.
