Thomas Coury and Cole Hanna Receive PAC Weekly Honors

(GREENVILLE, Pa.) – Carnegie Mellon University junior Thomas Coury (Phillipsburg, N.J. / Phillipsburg) and graduate student Cole Hanna (Peachtree Corners, Ga. / Norcross (South Carolina)) have been recognized for their play in the now 18th-ranked Tartans' 12-7 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) win at Washington & Jefferson College Saturday. Coury was named PAC Defensive Athlete of the Week while Hanna was named PAC Special Teams Player of the Week.

Coury posted a game-high 12 tackles, 6 solo, 2.5 tackles for loss and a sack in the victory over W&J. He also forced a fumble, broke up a pass and blocked a 28-yard first quarter field goal. Coury spearheaded a defensive effort that limited W&J to 42 rushing yards which was the fifth time this season the Tartans have held opponents to under 100 rushing yards, and the third time yielding 50 rushing yards or less. Coury's 54 tackles rank second in the PAC this season.

Hanna had six kicking points in the win as he put Carnegie Mellon on the scoreboard with just under seven minutes remaining in the third quarter with a 33-yard field goal. The graduate student then connected on a 29-yard field goal to pull the Tartans to within a point at 7-6 with 10 minutes to play in the game. Hanna also placed three of his four kickoffs in the endzone for touchbacks.

Carnegie Mellon will entertain Geneva College in the 10th Annual Cindy Lackner Game on Saturday, October 22. Kick is set for 7:00 p.m. on the turf at Gelsing Stadium.
