Tartans Place Four on All-ECAC Team

(DANBURY, Conn.) – The Carnegie Mellon University football team had four players selected to the 2023 Division IIII Football All-Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Team. The Tartans placed one on the first team with the other three earning second team honors.

Senior defensive back Adrian Williams, a First Team All-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) and Third Team D3football.com All-Region selection, was the lone Tartan on the first team. The three second team honorees were senior linebacker Robert Coury, junior defensive lineman Mitchell Stokey and sophomore offensive lineman Sam Alligood

Williams led the Tartans for the second consecutive season in passes defended with 17, which ranked 10th nationally and was tops in the PAC. The senior recorded 30 solo tackles and three interceptions. He was the Tartans fifth leading tackler with 45 total.

Coury, who was a semifinalist for the 2023 Gagliardi Trophy, a First Team All-PAC honoree, a First Team D3foorball.com Region 2 selection and First Team American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) All-American and a Second Team D3football.com All-American, led the Cardinal and Gray defense in 2023 for the fourth straight season in tackles (83) and third straight season in tackles for loss (16.5) while ranking second on the squad with 4.0 sacks. The senior has also forced a fumble, recovered a fumble, recorded an interception and had two blocked punts this season.

Stokey, a First Team All-PAC selection, ended the season with 4.0 sacks for a loss of 22 yards which ranked tied for second on the Tartans. He also tabbed 13.0 tackles for a loss of 55 yards, 30 total tackles, forced a fumble and had a pass breakup.

Alligood, also a First Team All-PAC honoree, anchored the Tartans offensive line. Alligood played in all 11 games this season with 10 starts.
