Men's Basketball Falls at Home to Chicago

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team hosted the University of Chicago Friday, January 13 and dropped a 100-55 University Athletic Association (UAA) contest.  The loss moves the Tartans record to 6-7, 1-1 while the Maroons improve to 8-5, 1-1.

The Tartans over the first 11 minutes of the contest converted two field goals, as the Maroons jumped out to a 24-7 lead and never looked back. After twenty minutes of play Chicago held a 53-22 lead as the Tartans had trouble finding the goal, shooting just 24% while Chicago shot 49%.

Chicago continued to have the hot hand, as the Maroons shot 52% from the field in the second half and led by as many as 50 points.

Carnegie Mellon shot 31% from the floor to the Maroons 50% while Chicago dominated the glass 57-28 and turned 17 offensive rebounds into 20 points. Sophomore Asad Meghani (Dallas, Texas/The Greenhill School) and freshman Drew Holinski (Livonia, Mich./Brother Rice) led the Tartans with seven points each.

Chicago had three players in double figures with Charlie Hughes and Matt Johnson leading the way with 18. Steve Stefanou cashed in with 15 points for the visitor's and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.

The Tartans will next welcome Washington University on Sunday, January 15 at 12:00 p.m.
