Men’s Basketball Opens With Exhibition Game at Duquesne University

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team traveled down Forbes Avenue Thursday, November 1 to play an exhibition contest against Division I Duquesne University.  The Tartans were led by senior Andre Moore (Bowie, Md./Archbishop Spalding), who had 11 points in the 74-48 loss.

The Tartans took an early 6-5 lead when Moore drained a shot from behind the arc.  The Dukes scored the next four points before a pair of foul shots by Tartan sophomore Jasen Blakney (Raleigh, N.C./Enloe) and a long ball by junior Asad Meghani (Dallas, Texas/The Greenhill School) gave the Tartans a 13-9 edge with 13 minutes to play in the first half.

Over the next 4:28, the Dukes scored 10 straight points to claim a 19-13 lead and went into the locker room leading 39-18. In the second half, the Tartans went toe-to-toe with the Dukes and were outscored by only five (35-30) points.

For the game, Duquesne shot 56% from the floor to the Tartans 25%.  Behind Moore's 11 points, Meghani ended the game with nine points. Duquesne's Kadeem Pantophlet led the Dukes with 11 points while Andre Marhold and Sean Johnson finished with 10.

Carnegie Mellon will open its regular season at the Al Van Wie / Rotary Classic.  The Tartans will play the host Fighting Scots of Wooster on Friday, November 16 in an 8:00 p.m. tip.
