Moore Leads Tartans in Defeat Against No. 20 Adrian

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team entertained No. 20 Adrian College Saturday in Skibo Gymnasium falling 62-51. The Tartans are now 1-6 on the season as the Bulldogs remain undefeated at 7-0.

The Tartans held the lead against No. 20 Adrian College three times in the first half but a 12-2 run by the Bulldogs to close the period left the home team down 19-11 in the lowest scoring half of the season for the Tartans.

Junior Phil Einwag (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) converted a three-point play five minutes into the game to give the Tartans their first lead at 5-4 as sophomore Jasen Blankey (Raleigh, N.C./Enloe) scored on a layup after his own defensive rebound at the 11:44 mark to give the Tartans their last lead at 9-7.

Adrian opened the second half with a 14-2 run to take its largest lead of the game at 20 points with 15:26 still to play. A three-pointer by senior Andre Moore (Bowie, Md./Archbishop Spalding) stopped the Bulldog run as sophomore Matt Loebbaka (Mt. Prospect, Ill./Prospect) followed with two jumpers in the paint to knock the deficit to 33-20 two minutes later.

Moore would later have an 11-point stretch in which he hit four baskets in a row and made two free throws over six-minute clip. The scoring run by Moore was coupled with five Tartan turnovers that Adrian exchanged for four points.

A three-pointer by junior Rob Mohen (Stamford, Conn./Regis School (NYC)) brought the Tartans within 10 points but the Bulldogs closed the last minute with four free throws and a tip-in to go on to the 11-point victory.

Moore finished with 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field. He and sophomore Seth Cordts (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) led on the boards with four rebounds apiece. In his first start of the season, freshman Jason Sebak (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Prep) dished out three assists.

Adrian was led by Eric Lewis's 18 points and 11 rebounds while Adam Meier also had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

The Tartans will look to rebound next week with a Saturday home contest against No. 14 Catholic University at 2:00 p.m.
