Mohen and Cordts Record Career Highs Against Case Western Reserve

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team opened its University Athletic Association schedule on Saturday, January 5 against the Spartans of Case Western Reserve University on the hardwood of Skibo Gymnasium.  The Tartans dropped a 76-73 decision to the Spartans as they move to 2-9, 0-1 and Case is now 8-4, 1-0.

The Tartans trailed 17-13 before scoring 15 straight points to take a 28-17 lead with seven minutes remaining in the first half.  During the stretch, junior Rob Mohen (Stamford, Conn./Regis (NY)) scored all 10 of his first half points.  Carnegie Mellon continued its momentum as they led by as many as 13 points (36-23) following a three-point bucket by senior Andre Moore (Bowie, Md./Archbishop Spalding) and then took a 41-33 lead into the break.

The Tartans ended the stanza shooting 55.6% from the floor while the Spartans shot 50.0%.  The Cardinal and Gray turned 12 first half Spartan turnovers into 17 points while also controlling the paint where they scored 18 points after twenty minutes of play.

Carnegie Mellon started the second half on a 13-2 run over the first six minutes to extend its lead to 54-35.  With the Tartans leading 58-43 with 10:26 to play, the visitor's used a 22-6 run over an eight minute stretch to take their first lead since early in the game.

Junior Rashaun Riley (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek) put the Tartans back on top with a jumper the next possession down the court, but back-to-back three-pointers by Case Western Reserve put the Spartans ahead for good as the held on for a 76-73 victory.
    
Case Western Reserve ended the game shooting 47.2% from the field to the Tartans 42.6%. Both teams tallied nine treys each with Tartan junior Asad Meghani (Dallas, Texas/The Greenhill School) converting 5-og-9 from behind the arc.  Meghani led the Tartans with a season-best 20 points.  Mohen ended with a career-high 18 points while sophomore Seth Cordts (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) cashed in with a career-best 11 points. Moore led the team with career highs of 11 rebounds and five assists.

The Spartans Austin Fowler and Dane McLoughlin both had 22 points to lead all scorers while Fowler grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.
