Serbin Tabbed UAA Rookie of the Year; Two Others Named Men’s Basketball All-UAA

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Freshman Jack Serbin (New Albany, Ohio) of the Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team becomes the first Tartan to be named University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Basketball Rookie of the Year as the Association announced its postseason accolades on Monday, March 3.

Joining the freshman with UAA honors were seniors Asad Meghani (Dallas, Texas/The Greenhill School) and Christian Manoli (San Rafael, Calif./Terra Linda) as they found a spot on the Association's second team.  This marks Meghani's second straight appearance on the second team while Manoli is being honored for the third time after receiving honorable mention status his freshman and sophomore seasons.

Serbin ended the season ranked second in the UAA with 33 blocks.  In 14 UAA contests, he averaged 10.0 points and 6.4 rebounds per game while totaling 25 blocks. He tallied his first career double-double in the Tartans' win at Emory on January 17 with 10 points and a career-high 14 rebounds.  Two weeks later, Serbin recorded a career-high 29 points against Brandeis. He finished the season with three double-doubles.

Meghani was second on the team in scoring, averaging 11.7 points per game.  He finished the regular season tied for second in the UAA with 68 made three-pointers while shooting 43.0% from behind the arc to rank sixth in the Association. Meghani became the school's all-time leader in three-pointers made after converting 7-of-9 from behind the arc and had a career-high 27 points at New York on February 7. He ended his career with 218 treys and finished with a streak of at least one three-pointer made in 56 straight games dating back to the 2011-12 season.

Manoli led the team in scoring, rebounding and assists with 16.5 points and 6.3 rebounds per game while dishing out 69 assists.  He ranked sixth in scoring and rebounding in the UAA.  He recorded a career-high 32 points in the Tartans' win at Emory this season after converting 18-of-21 foul shots on his way to being named UAA Athlete of the Week.

This marks the fourth straight season that Carnegie Mellon has had at least two players named to the All-UAA team.
