Ehland Tabbed UAA Rookie of the Year; Serbin Named All-UAA

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Freshman Patrick Ehland (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) of the Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team becomes the second Tartan to be named University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Basketball Rookie of the Year as the Association announced its postseason accolades on Wednesday, March 2.

Joining Ehland with UAA honors is junior Jack Serbin (New Albany, Ohio), who is the other Tartan that claimed UAA Rookie of the Year honors following his freshman campaign.  This season, Serbin repeats on the second team.   

Ehland finished his first season with the Tartans averaging 8.2 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.  He led all UAA freshmen shooting 50.4% from the floor and with 25 blocks while ranking eighth and tenth, respectively, in the league.  Ehland recorded two double-doubles this season with one coming against nationally ranked Franklin & Marshall College in late December.  He scored in double figures 11 times and recorded a career-best 16 points against Penn State York.

Serbin led the Tartans averaging 18.4 points and 10.9 rebounds per game.  He became the 19th player in program history to crack the 1,000-point barrier and finished the season with 1,073 career points.  The junior recorded 16 double-doubles this season which tied him for first in the UAA and ranks ninth nationally.  He ranks sixth nationally and first in the UAA with 8.48 defensive rebounds per game.  Serbin also is tops in the UAA in total rebounds and second in scoring.  In 23 of the 25 games he played, the 6-foot-9-inch swingman recorded double figures while recording 20 or more in seven.  This season he also recorded career highs in points (37) and rebounding (20) and became the first Tartan to average a double-double in back-to-back seasons.
