Three Tartans Named to the All-UAA Men’s Basketball Team

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Senior Trent Suddeth (Winter Park, Fla./Trinity Prep), senior Zach Howarth (Freehold, N.J./St. John Vianney) and senior Colin McNeil (Ringoes, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) of the Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team were named to the All-University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Basketball Team when the Association announced its postseason accolades on Thursday. Suddeth found a spot on the second team while Howarth and McNeil were named honorable mention. This marks Howarth's third straight All-UAA honor, as he appeared on the second team the previous two seasons.

Suddeth led the UAA averaging 10.4 rebounds per game and double-doubles with 12. He averaged 14.6 points per game, which led the Tartans and ranked seventh in the UAA. Suddeth became the sixth Tartan in program history to record 250 rebounds in a single-season, as he finished with 259, including 214 defensive boards that also led the UAA and ranked sixth nationally. In 22 of the 25 games he played, he recorded double figures while recording 20 points or more on four occasions. Suddeth became the first Tartan to average a double-double since Jack Serbin accomplished it in three straight seasons (2014-17). Prior to Serbin, the last Tartan to do so was Jon Blanciak who averaged 14.0 points and 10.5 rebounds in the 1994-95 season.

Howarth was second on the Tartans averaging 14.1 points per game and ranked 10th in the UAA. He recorded five 20-point games this season, three coming in UAA play. Howarth led the UAA in free throws attempted for the second straight season with 132 and was second in free throws made with 92. The senior became the 20th Tartan to reach the 1,000-point milestone and ended his career ranked sixth all-time with 1,264 points.

McNeil led the UAA and was second in the nation averaging 7.3 assists per game. In the Tartans' 84-71 win at NYU, McNeil tied the UAA single-game record with 17 assists, a record previously set in the 1996-97 season. His 17 assists also marked a single-game school record. The senior guard topped the program's single-season record for assists in a season with 183, a record that stood for 43 years at 138. McNeil ended his career as the all-time assist leader with 458. He also recorded the first triple-double in school history in a win over La Roche University December 4 of this season when he tabbed 10 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds. He averaged 9.4 points per game and ranked second in the UAA this season with 1.6 steals per contest.
