Bangor Leads Tartans at Day One of Edward Jones Shootout

(APOLLO, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team hosted the first day of the annual Edward Jones Shootout Saturday, April 14 at The Links @ Spring Church in Apollo, Pa.  Following the first round, the Tartans are in sixth place after they fired a team score of 321 on the par-70 course.

Allegheny leads the field after scoring a round of 303 followed by Penn State Behrend with 305, Washington & Jefferson (308), St. Vincent (317) and Westminster (317).   Colin Izzo from Washington & Jefferson, Dante Vetica from Penn State Behrend and Samuel Cline from St. Vincent are tied for the individual lead after Saturday's round shooting a four-over par 74.  

Sophomore Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) leads the Tartans after the first day with a five-over par 75, one shot off the individual lead. Senior Terence Einhorn (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick) and freshman Cameron Low (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward) both carded rounds of 81 for the Cardinal and Gray.

Freshman Justin Fischler (Avon, Conn.) ended Saturday with an 84 while senior Michael Cheng (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) rounded out the Tartans with an 85.

There were six individuals that entered the invitational for the Tartans.  Sophomore Grant Strimel (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) leads the core of individuals with a 77. Sophomore Alex Fry (Grand Island, N.Y.) fired an 80, as freshman Derek Cobb (Urbana, Ohio) enter the clubhouse with an 83. Freshman Austin Cheng (Chester, N.J./Phillips Exeter Academy) carded an 86. Junior Matt Wilson (Orange, Calif./Villa Park) carded a 90 and sophomore Jisoo Park (Dix Hills, N.Y./Pendleton) scored a 97.

Round two continues Sunday, April 15 with a shotgun start set for 8:30 a.m.
