Bangor Captures Medalist Honors at Annual Edward Jones Shootout

(APOLLO, Pa.) – At the final day of the Edward Jones Shootout Sunday, April 15, the Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team shot a 301 to place tied for fourth.  The Tartans ended the 36-hole event with a team score of 622.  Allegheny College won the two-day event that was held at the par-70, The Links @ Spring Church in Apollo, Pa. with a team score of 604.

Sophomore Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) claimed top medalist honors after carding a 147 (75-72).  Bangor tied with Samuel Cline of St. Vincent, but won the tiebreaker.  The tie was broke by counting backwards from hole 18 on day two scorecards.

Senior Terence Einhorn (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick) entered the clubhouse with a 157 (81-76) while freshman Cameron Low (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward) was one-stroke back of Einhorn with a 158 (81-77). Senior Michael Cheng (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) improved eight strokes on Sunday to finish with a 160 (84-76) and freshman Justin Fischler (Avon, Conn.) scored a 162 (84-78) for the tournament.

There were six individuals that entered the invitational for the Tartans.  Sophomore Grant Strimel (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) tied for eighth overall after carding a 152 (77-75). Freshman Derek Cobb (Urbana, Ohio) shot a 157 (83-74) followed by sophomore Alex Fry (Grand Island, N.Y.) 163 (80-83), freshman Austin Cheng (Chester, N.J./Phillips Exeter Academy) 168 (86-82), sophomore Jisoo Park (Dix Hills, N.Y./Pendleton)  176 (97-79) and junior Matt Wilson (Orange, Calif./Villa Park) 187 (90-97).
