Tartans Set School Record at Vulcan Invitational

(BELLE VERNON, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University golf team competed in the 54-hole two-day, Vulcan Invitational hosted by California University of Pennsylvania at the Cedarbrook Golf Course, September 29-30.  The Tartans carded a school record three-round team score of 893 to place fifth out of 16 teams and the top Division II school.

Junior Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) led the Tartans with a first-place finish for the 54-hole event carding three-under par 211 (69-69-73). Sophomore Cameron Low (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward) finished with a 224 (72-75-77).

Freshman Ben DuCarme (McMurray, Pa./Canon-McMillan) shot a 229 (69-75-85) for the Tartans, while sophomore Justin Fischler (Avon, Conn.) finished with a 232 (76-75-81).  Junior Grant Strimel (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) finished the Cardinal and Gray's scoring firing a three-round total of 248 (83-83-82).

Bangor's back-to-back rounds of 69 marked his second and third round this fall he has shot under par and sixth round for his career. He has now had five rounds of shooting under 70 for his career as well. DuCarme's and Low's opening round scores of 69 and 72, respectively, marked career-bests for each of them.
