(DESTIN, Fla.) - Junior Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) of the Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team competed at the 2013 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships. Bangor fired a seven-over par 79 on Tuesday, May 14 in the opening round. The championship is being held at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Destin, Florida hosted by Methodist University.

Bangor is one of five individuals taking part in the competition along with 41 teams of five players each for a total field size of 210.

The national championship is being played on two courses - The Links Golf Club, a par-72, 6,710-yard course, and Raven Golf Club, a par-71, 6,900-yard course. Over the first two days, golfers will play both courses.

On Tuesday, Bangor played The Links and started the day even par after three holes before making the turn six-over.  The junior regained his composure, and fired a one-over par over his next nine to finish with a 79.  On the round, Bangor recorded three birdies.

Bangor will look to make the cut on Wednesday, as the field will be trimmed to 15 teams and the top six individuals not on an advancing team. Bangor will be teeing off at 12:00 p.m. CT on Wednesday playing The Raven.
