Men’s Golf Places Third at UAA Match Play Championships

(SORRENTO, Fla.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team competed in the third-place match of the University Athletics Association (UAA) Match Play Championships on Sunday, March 13. The two-day event was held at Red Tail Country Club in Sorrento, Florida on the par-72, 6,768-yard course. The Tartans faced New York University in the third-place match and defeated the Violets 4-2.
    
Junior George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy) topped NYU's Lucas Oberholtzer 4-and-2. Also picking up wins for the Tartans were sophomores Nikhil Mohan (Bangalore, India/Canadian International School) and Adrian Del Bosque (Monterrey, Mexico/IMG Academy). Mohan won 5-and-4 over Eric Tarakjian and Del Bosque defeated Qizhi Wong 3-and-2.

The deciding point was claimed by junior Jordan Klodowski (Kittanning, Pa.) who defeated Julius Oppenheimer 3-and-2.
    
NYU claimed victories with Matthew Love topping junior Brad Jennette (Pittsford, N.Y./Sutherland) 3-and-1 and Derrek Drozdyk defeating junior Alexander Pomerantz (Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional) 3-and-2.

Qian earned All-Tournament honors for his finishes on both days.

The Tartans will next compete at the three-day Jekyll Island Invitational at Pine Lakes Golf Course in Jekyll Island, Georgia, beginning Friday, March 18.
