Men’s Golf Improves 10 Strokes in Second Round of Jekyll Island Collegiate

(JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team continued play at the second day of the 2017 Jekyll Island Collegiate Saturday, March 18. Three Tartans finished the suspended play form the first round before hitting the links for round two. At the conclusion of 36 holes, the Tartans are currently tied for 13th with a two-round total of 602 (306-296). The three-day event is being played on the 6,711-yard, par-72 Pine Lakes Course on Jekyll Island and the field is comprised of 29 teams which has 15 of the nation's top 25 teams in Division III including three of the top five.

Senior George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy) led the Tartans on Saturday with an even par round of 72 and currently is tied for fourth individually in a field of 150 golfers. Qian has a two-round score of two-under par 142 (70-72) and is one-stroke off the lead. Sophomore Patrick Tan (Vancouver, British Columbia/Prince of Wales Secondary) improved five strikes from his opening round and entered the clubhouse with a one-over par 73 on Saturday. The sophomore has a two-round score of 151 (78-73).

Junior Nikhil Mohan (Bangalore, India/Canadian International School) turned in a three-over par 75 for the second round and has a 36-hole score of 152 (77-75). Senior Brad Jennette (Pittsford, N.Y./ Pittsford Sutherland) also improved five strokes from round one on Saturday and turned in a 76. He will enter play on Sunday with a 157 (81-76). Junior Adrian Del Bosque (Monterrey, Mexico/IMG Academy) carded a round of 81 and has a 166 (85-81) for the tournament heading into play on Sunday.

Three individuals for Carnegie Mellon continued play Saturday on the par-72 Oleander Course. Senior Ryan Karbowicz (Avon, Conn.) leads the trio with a 155 (76-79). Sophomore Adrian Berger (Los Angeles, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) has carded a 157 (82-75) after tying a career-best round of 75 on Saturday. Senior Alexander Pomerantz (Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional) has fired a 162 (81-81).

The Tartans will conclude the 54-hole invitational Sunday morning and will be teeing off at 8:00 a.m.
