Li Named UAA Men’s Golf Rookie of the Year; Two Others Named to the All-UAA Squad

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Freshman Jason Li (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) of the Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team has been named University Athletic Association (UAA) Rookie of the Year, as voted on by the association coaches. Li, also a first-team selection, is joined by two Tartan honorable mention honorees, senior Nikhil Mohan (Bangalore, India/Canadian International School) and junior Patrick Tan (Vancouver, British Columbia/Prince of Wales Secondary).

The trio played a factor in the team setting the lowest two-round, 36-hole score in program history. The Tartans opened the year carding a 570 (284-286) to win the 10-team Carnegie Mellon Fall Shootout.

Li won both of his matches during the UAA match play championship in March, topping Jack Mulligan of Rochester 1-up to seal the opening round win for the Tartans. The freshman was down two holes with three to play and finished with a birdie on 16, par on 17, and a birdie on 18 to claim the victory by winning all three. The next day, he knocked off Emory's Eric Yiu 2-and-1 on his way to being named to the UAA Championship All-Tournament team. He finished the season with a team-best average round of 73.9 through 15 rounds and recorded a season-low round of 70 on four occasions.

Mohan ranked second on the team with a scoring average of 76.3 competing in all 15 rounds. The senior was named to the UAA Championship All-Tournament team after defeating Corey Mitchener of Rochester 4-and-3 before ending in a deadlock with Connor Yakubovas of Emory. Twice, Mohan tied his career-best round, as he carded back-to-back rounds of 70 to open the season at the Carnegie Mellon Fall Shootout.

Tan recorded a scoring average of 77.5 in 11 rounds played this season. Tan carded his career-best round of 67 at the O'Briant-Jensen Memorial hosted by Guilford College at the Sedgefield Country Club - Dye Course in Greensboro, North Carolina, in late October. His four-under par 67 also tied a program record.
