Tartans End Play at Gordin Collegiate Classic

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team, ranked seventh nationally, competed in the final round of the 54-hole Gordin Collegiate Classic hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University at the par 72, 7,098-yard, Columbus Country Club in Columbus, Ohio. The Tartans fired a 296 in the final round to finish with an 884 (290-298-296) and placed 12th out of 15 teams.

The event has been played annually since 1991 while matching the elite NCAA Division III teams, featuring most ­ if not all ­ of the top 10 finishers from the previous spring's NCAA Division III championship tournament.

Illinois Wesleyan, defending national champion, won the event with an 840 (285-277-278) while Huntingdon College, nationally ranked third, placed second with an 846 (285-280-281). Emory University, who is ranked as the nation's top team, placed third after carding an 853 (290-278-285).

Junior Jason Li (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) and sophomore Joshua Lim (San Francisco, Calif./Lowell) led the Tartans on Tuesday both carding rounds of one-over par 73. Li ended the 54-hole event with a 217 (72-72-73) with Lim recording a 224 (75-76-73).

Junior Jay Milch (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Fox Lane), sophomore William Knauth (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) and freshman Raymond Li (Del Mar, Calif.) all entered the clubhouse Tuesday with a three-over par 75. Knauth ended with a 221 (72-74-75) while Li tied Lim with a 224 (73-76-75) and Milch shot a 226 (73-78-75).

Carnegie Mellon will be back on the links October 13-15 when the play in the Golfweek Fall Invitational. The event is being held at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort's Raven Golf Club in Destin, Florida.
