Tartans Card Team School Record Round; Tied for Second After 36 Holes of Savannah Invitational

(SAVANNAH, Ga.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team, ranked ninth nationally, competed in the opening round on Monday of the 54-hole Savannah Invitational hosted by Berry College and being played at The Club at Savannah Harbor Golf Course. The Tartans carded rounds of 284 and 280 for a 36-hole score of 564. The Cardinal and Gray currently are tied for second-place in the 18-team field on the par 72, 6,845-yard course. The 280 team score carded during round two is a new school record for a single round.

Methodist University, ranked 13th nationally, leads the field after carding rounds of 282 and 276 for a 558. The Tartans are tied with University Athletic Association counterpart Emory, who is ranked second nationally.

Junior Jason Folker (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) is tied for second individually in a field of 90 golfers with a 137. The junior opened play with a two-under par 70 in round one before he carded a career-best round of five-under par 67.

Junior Jason Li (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) sits a stroke behind Folker with a 138 and is tied for fifth. On Monday, Li carded rounds of two-under par 70 and four-under par 68. It marked his eighth and ninth rounds this season he has shot even-par or lower.

Sophomore Joshua Lim (San Francisco, Calif./Lowell) opened play with a career-best round of three-under par 69 and then followed with a round of even par 72. He currently is tied for 14th with a 141. Sophomore William Knauth (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) shot rounds of 75 and 73 for a 148 while junior Jay Milch (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Fox Lane) recorded rounds of 75 and 81 for a 156.

The Tartans had two individuals play 18 holes at the Savannah Quarters Country Club on Monday. Freshman Raymond Li (Del Mar, Calif.) carded a 69 while freshman Brian Li (Beijing, China/Blair Academy) shot a 78.

The second day of play will continue on Tuesday with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start.
