Tartans Open Season at Gate City Invitational

(GREENSBORO, N.C.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team opened its season on Monday at the Gate City Invitational which is being played at Starmount Forest Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina. Following 36 holes of the 54-hole event, the Tartans are tied for sixth after carding rounds of 294 and 292 for a 586 on Monday.

How it Happened:

  • Senior Brian Xu opened the season with back-to-back rounds of even par 71 for a 36-hole score of 142. He is tied for eighth individually in a field of 90 golfers.
  • Freshman Justin Luan started his collegiate career with a two-over par 73 and then followed with a one-over par 72 for a 145.
  • Back-to-back rounds of two over par 73 for sophomore David Zhang gives him a 146 heading into the final round.
  • Sophomore Jay Saluja ended play Monday with a 154 after two rounds of 77.
  • Freshman Ryan Dannegger also shot a 154, as he carded round of 78 and 76.
