Tartans Place Third at Tartan Invitational

(LIGONIER, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team competed in the final round of The Tartan Invitational on Tuesday and carded a team score of 305. The Tartans placed third in a field of 15 teams with a 910 (307-298-305). The 54-hole, two-day event is hosted by Carnegie Mellon and is being played at the historic Laurel Valley Golf Club in Ligonier, Pennsylvania.

How it Happened:

  • Sophomore David Zhang continued to lead the Tartans as he finished with a 54-hole score of 221 (+5) (76-69-76) after carding a 76 in the final round. Zheng placed tied for second individually in a field of 75 golfers.
  • Freshman Justin Luan carded his best round of the tournament and the Tartans low round on Tuesday with a one-over par 74. He finished with a 232 (77-81-74).
  • Junior Justin Chan ended the event with a 233 (78-75-80).
  • Senior Jack Sonne finished with a 234 (76-80-78).
  • Senior Brian Xu shot a 236 (85-74-77) over the three rounds.

Notes:

  • Laurel Valley Golf Club opened in 1959 and was designed by Dick Wilson and renovated by Arnold Palmer. Since its opening, the club has hosted two notable tournaments: the 1965 PGA Championship and the 1975 Ryder Cup. Other tournaments played on the course include the 1989 U.S. Senior Open, the 2001 Marconi Pennsylvania Classic and the 2005 Senior PGA Championship.
