Chan Sits atop Leaderboard After 18 Holes of the Golfweek DIII Fall Invite; Tartans Tied for Fourth

(MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team opened play at the 2023 Golfweek DIII Fall Invitational in Miramar Beach, Florida, on Sunday. The Tartans are currently tied for fourth in the three-day, 54-hole tournament out of 25 teams after carding a 282 on Sunday.

How it Happened:

  • Junior Justin Chan led the Tartans on Sunday carding a career-low round of six-under 65. He currently sits atop the individual leader board in a field of 125 golfers.
  • Senior Brian Xu entered the clubhouse with a season-best round of two-under par 69 and is tied for seventh.
  • Sophomore David Zhang also turned in a round of under par Sunday with a one-under 70.
  • Opening play with a 78 was freshman Justin Luan.
  • Sophomore Andrew Wang completed play with a 79.

Notes:

  • Chan's score of 65 (-6) is tied for the third lowest individual 18-hole total in the program's history.
  • It is the second straight year that Chan is atop the leaderboard following the opening round of the Golfweek Invite. Last season, Chan fired a 67 in the first round.
