(SAVANNAH, Ga.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team competed in The Savannah Invitational hosted by Berry College on Monday and Tuesday. The 54-hole event was played at The Club at Savannah Harbor Golf Course. Sophomore David Zhang tied the school record for the lowest individual round in the program's history with a seven-under par 65 during the second round of play. The Tartans placed seventh after carding rounds of 289, 285 and 294 for an 868.

How it Happened:

  • Zhang eagled holes seven and eleven when recording three birdies during his school record tying round of seven-under. He led the Tartans with a 209 after carding rounds of even par 72, seven-under 65 and even par 72. Zhang placed seventh individually in a field of 95 golfers.
  • Senior Brian Xu opened play with a one-over par 73 and then carded back-to-back rounds of one-under par 71 for a 54-hole score of 215.
  • Junior Justin Chan carded a first-round score of even par 72 and ended with a three-round score of 222 (72-73-77).
  • Freshman Steven Shea also fired an opening round of even par 72 and finished the invite with a 223 (72-76-75).
  • Senior Jack Sonne ended play with a 238 (80-82-76).

'B' Team Competes at Port City Invitational:

  • The Tartans entered a 'B' team and one individual in the Port City Invite at the par 71, 6,715-yard Savannah Country Club with the Cardinal and Gray shooting a 54-hole score of 885 (298-291-296) and placed fourth in a field of 17 teams.
  • Freshman Ryan Dannegger led the 'B' team with a 219 (75-68-76) and placed tied for seventh individually in a field of 94 golfers. Dannegger's second round of three-under par 68 was a collegiate best.
  • Sophomore Andrew Wang carded a 223 (73-78-72) over the 54-hole event.
  • Sophomore Jay Saluja shot rounds of 77-74-72 for a 223.
  • Senior Stephen Dai fired a career-best round of two-over par 73 to start play and finished with a 225 (73-76-76).
  • Freshman Justin Luan completed play with a 230 (80-73-77).
  • Senior Brian Li Carded a 240 (77-83-80) as an individual.
