Tartans in Second After Opening Round of Tiger Invitational; ‘B’ Team Leads Hampden-Sydney Invite

(PINEHURST, N.C.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team competed in the opening round on Sunday of the 36-hole Tiger Invitational hosted by Hampden-Sydney College at the Forest Creek Golf Club in Pinehurst, North Carolina. The Tartans carded a 290 and currently are in second in the 18-team field.

How it Happened:

  • Senior Brian Xu, sophomore David Zhang, freshman Ryan Dannegger all carded rounds of even par 72 and are tied for fifth individually in a field of 90 golfers. Both Zhang and Dannegger eagled hole 18.
  • Junior Justin Chan entered the clubhouse with a 74 following the opening round.
  • Sophomore Andrew Wang shot a 75 Sunday.

'B' Team Competes at Hampden-Sydney Invite:

  • The Tartans entered a 'B' team and one individual in the Hampden-Sydney Invite at the par 71, 6,561-yard Seven Lakes Country Club in Seven Lakes, North Carolina. The Cardinal and Gray shot a 312 and lead the field of 11 teams after the opening round.
  • Sophomore Jay Saluja led the 'B' team with a five-over par 76 and is tied for fourth individually in a field of 68 golfers.
  • Senior Jack Sonne carded a 78.
  • Freshmen Steven Shea and Justin Luan each shot rounds of 79
  • Senior Stephen Dai fired an 81.
  • Senior Brian Li carded a 76 as an individual.

  • The second round of both invites will be played on Monday, March 11.
