Tartans Place Third at Tiger Invitational; ‘B’ Team Wins Hampden-Sydney Invite

(PINEHURST, N.C.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team ended play on Monday at the 36-hole Tiger Invitational hosted by Hampden-Sydney College at the Forest Creek Golf Club in Pinehurst, North Carolina. The Tartans carded a 301 and finished third in the 18-team field with a 591 (290-301).

How it Happened:

  • Junior Justin Chan fired an even round of par 72 Monday and ended with a 146 (74-72).
  • Senior Brian Xu fired a two-over par 74 in round two for a 146 (72-74).
  • Chan and Xu tied for eighth individually in a field of 90 golfers.
  • Freshman Ryan Dannegger carded a 149 (72-77) over the 36-hole event.
  • Sophomore David Zhang ended the 36-hole event with a 152 (72-80)
  • Sophomore Andrew Wang shot a 153 (75-78) for the two-round invitational.

'B' Team Competes at Hampden-Sydney Invite:

  • The Tartans entered a 'B' team and one individual in the Hampden-Sydney Invite at the par 71, 6,561-yard Seven Lakes Country Club in Seven Lakes, North Carolina. The Cardinal and Gray carded a 36-hole score of 614 (312-302) to win the invite in a field of 11 teams.
  • Sophomore Jay Saluja led the 'B' team with a 150 (76-74) to claim induvial medalist honors in a field of 68 golfers.
  • Freshman Steven Shea fired a 154 (79-75).
  • Senior Jack Sonne carded back-to-back rounds of 78 for a 156.
  • Senior Stephen Dai shot a 156 (81-75).
  • Freshman Justin Luan ended with a 158 (79-79),
  • Senior Brian Li carded a 155 (76-79) as an individual.
