Tartans Even Record with 5-1 Victory at W&J

(WASHINGTON, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team scored three goals in just over five minutes early in the first half to even its record at 3-3-1 with a 5-1 victory at Washington & Jefferson College Wednesday night.  The loss moves the Presidents record to 2-4.

Sophomore Mike Ferraco (Penn Hills, Pa.) started the scoring for the Tartans just over 12 minutes into the contest as he headed the ball past Presidents' keeper Pete Tomlinson, off a cross from sophomore Scott Gerfen (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman).

Four minutes later, Ferraco scored again, this time what proved to be the game winner.  The Tartans extended the lead to 3-0 1:13 following Ferraco's second goal. Sophomore Max Tassano (Bala Cynwyd, Pa./Lower Merion) took a cross pass from senior defender Ben Bryant (Toledo, Ohio/Ottawa Hills) and headed past Tomlinson at the 17:36.

Tassano added his second goal of the game and third of the season in the 54th minute, as the visitor's took a 4-0 lead.  The Presidents got on the board in the 76th minute when Paul Boerema scored his first of the season for W&J.

Carnegie Mellon's senior Brad Edelman (Denver Colo./Cherry Creek) pushed the lead back to four, 5-1, when he found the back of the net in the 79th minute.

The Tartans will be back in action Saturday, September 24, as they entertain the Bison of Bethany College at 1:00 p.m.
