#4 Tartans Score Late, Tie Chicago in OT

(CHICAGO, Ill.) - Senior Ben Bryant (Toledo, Ohio/Ottawa Hills) helped the #4 Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team tie the University of Chicago on the road Saturday afternoon by scoring with less than two minutes to play to send the game into overtime. The Tartans (8-1-1, 1-0-1 UAA) and Maroons (5-2-3, 0-1-1) then shut each other down to finish overtime with a 2-2 score on the books.

With 1:46 to go, Bryant tied the game on a volley from the top of the 18-yard box to the corner of the goal. The senior's one-time strike came three seconds after junior Mike Ferraco (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills) had a shot saved by Maroon keeper Brett Wiesen and was his third goal of the season.

The Maroons were leading the game 2-0 in the second period as Michael Choquette scored in the 14th minute on a penalty kick and Nic Lopez put in a shot in the 67th minute.

A minute after Chicago took the 2-0 lead, junior Chris Wysocki (Newtown, Pa./Germantown Academy) put the Tartans on the board with his first goal of the season. Bryant was involved in the play as he sent a free kick into the penalty area where Wysocki flicked a header past Wiesen to cut the deficit in half.

The Tartans had three other shots saved in the second period and Madden made a save in the final 20 seconds to send the game into overtime.

Bryant had a shot blocked in the opening minute of the first overtime while junior Cole Christensen (Castle Rock, Colo./Rock Canyon) had a header go wide off a corner kick by Bryant in the 95th minute.

Madden made another save in the second overtime period to keep the score knotted at 2-2.
