Tartans Win by 1-0 Score for Fifth Time

(MEADVILLE, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team earned its fifth 1-0 victory of the season, this time at Allegheny College to record its fifth win and fifth shutout of the year. The Tartans are now 5-1 on the season as Allegheny drops a game for the first time and is 3-1-2.

Senior Christopher Madden (Reisterstown, Md./Calvert Hall) earned the shutout in net, recording two saves in 90 minutes time. The victory was his third of the season.

Senior Max Tassano (Bala Cynwyd, Pa./Lower Merion) scored his first goal of the season in the 34th minute after a scramble in the box. Tassano collected a pass from senior Chris Wysocki (Newtown, Pa./Germantown Academy) and blasted the shot from short range.

The Tartans dominated on the offensive end with 15 shot attempts to the Gators five, with four shots saved by Gator keeper John Lichina

Allegheny's first shot attempt came in the opening minutes of the first half with its second shot saved by Madden in the 55th minute.

Wysocki had two shot attempts saved by Lichina in the second period, one following a corner kick by freshman Tristan Lockwood (Victor, N.Y./Victor) in the 75th minute and the other coming in the 78th minute.

Madden's second and final save of the game came in the 82nd minute on a shot by Daniel McCann, keeping the shutout intact.

The Tartans will stay on the road for their next contest when they travel to Washington & Jefferson College for a 7:00 p.m. game on Wednesday, September 18.
